Game Overview - Tips and Strategy

  • When throwing, aim low. Many skaters will have difficulty catching the ball if it hits them below the knees.
  • Use team work and throw multiple balls at a single opponent from several different directions.
  • The Wing Dodger should wait until the right moment to approach the opponents by way of the wing zone. But in the right circumstances having the Wing Dodger very close and on the side can be very distracting to the other team.
  • Maximize your teams positions by alternating which skater becomes the next Wing Dodger during rotation.
  • If a Dodger does not have a ball to throw, they should move to the back of their zone. While keeping their eyes looking forward toward the opponents, the skater can hold their arm back behind them so a Fielder can easily place a ball in their hand.

Lets Play...
Initial Setup: Both sides have three balls. The Wing Dodgers must begin in their respective Base zones until the whistle blows to start the first Round.
Start Round 1: Both teams advance their Wing Dodgers into the Wing Zones in hope of getting a cross-fire throw.
Red Team on the Attack: As the balls get thrown back and forth a team will usually move forward when they hold most of the balls. At this point the Blue team is moving back and trying to stay safe by increasing the range from the Red players. Note that some Red skaters are carring two balls.
Blue Wing Dodger hit: The Blue team's Wing Dodger is hit by one of three balls thrown by the Red side. The Blue skater must now play as another Fielder for the remainder of the Round.
4 on 3: Saying, "Four on Three" is the shorthand way to describe the present situation. The numbers are the counts of the remaining Dodgers in the current Round. Fielder counts are not used.

Red has four Dodgers (1 Wing + 3 Base) while the Blue team has its three original Base Dodgers remaining.

Later during the same Round...
2 on 2: Two Dodgers remaining per team is the least number possible. One more out on either side and the Round is over.
Red wins the Round! Another Blue Dodger is out. This ends the Round and the Red Team scores one point. See Scoring.

Both Teams now have 15 second to complete their skater-position rotation before the next Round begins.
