Game Overview - Scoring
- At the end of a Round, one team (but possibly both teams) will receive one point.
- The Round ends when either team loses three Dodgers AND there are no thrown balls still in flight.
- A team always scores one point for sending three opponents Out. This is true even if they lose three or all four of their own Dodgers (in which case the other team will also score one point).
- If the scoring team has none of its own Dodgers Out, the team gets an additional point for a 'Slam' (i.e. 2 points total awarded for the Round).
- The first team to reach 10 points wins the game.
- In the event of a 10 to 10 point tie game, the next team to score 1 point more than the other team wins.
Details - Special Cases - Exceptions
A team that is playing short due to an Major Penalty Expulsion is considered to already have one Dodger Out for the purposes of scoring.
Because it takes several seconds for a thrown ball to hit its target it is possible that several balls thrown by different players can all be airborne at the same time.
It does not matter who throws first. So long as a Dodger throws before being hit, his throw can also hit an opponent and send them Out.
It is even possible for two opponents to send each other Out. Example: Both Dodgers throw more or less at the same time and regardless which ball was thrown first or which ball hits its target first, both skaters could be sent Out.
In situations where several skaters are all throwing at each other, so long as the throw was made legally, a good hit always sends the target skater Out. Note: A legal throw means the throwing skater was a Dodger in bounds and In Play.
Usually, one team (with 2, 3 or 4 Dodgers left) will send the third opponent Dodger out (leaving only one). In this case the Round would end and the team with two or more remaining Dodgers would receive one point.
A Round can end in a tie (one point awarded to both teams)! Example: Both teams have only two Dodgers still in play. Before they are hit themselves, several Dodgers throw balls. All the balls fly toward their targets (overlapping in time). One Dodger from each team is hit and Sent Out.
Now both teams have lost three Dodgers so the Round ends. It would also be a tie if 'Red' lost three Dodgers and 'Blue' lost four. It would also be a tie if Both teams lost all their Dodgers.
There are only a finite number of possible endings to a Round where a team has lost at least three Dodgers:
| Red Dodgers Remaining | Blue Dodgers Remaining | Score for Red Team | Score for Blue Team |
| 4 | 1 or None | +2* | 0 |
| 3 | 1 or None | +1 | 0 |
| 2 | 1 or None | +1 | 0 |
| 1 or None | 1 or None | +1 | +1 |
| 1 or None | 2 | 0 | +1 |
| 1 or None | 3 | 0 | +1 |
| 1 or None | 4 | 0 | +2* |
*+2 because extra point awarded for "slam".
The Key is to remember to wait until all the legal throwing stops. During the pause in the action see if one or both teams have lost three or more Dodgers due to hits, falling or expulsion from the game. If so, the Round ends and one or both teams score a point.
